Spring

De-thatching

Thatch is a layer of dead stems, roots and clippings between the soil's surface and green vegetation that will deprive your lawn of vital nutrients. De-thatching is a process that mechanically removes accumulated thatch using steel wire tines to lift the thatch to the surface for removal. (also referred to as Scarifying)

Fertilising

Fertilising should be carried out after de-thatching or scarifying using a quality fertiliser.

Top Dressing

Low spots should now be filled with washed rive sand, that should be spread with a top soil spreader or a timber screed at 10mm in depth. At this time a quality fertiliser should also be applied to speed up the growth.

Fungus Control

Some fungus disease may be around at this time of the year due to the warmer weather and increased humidity. To identify these diseases contact your local horticulturalist and seek advice on the correct chemical to use.

Weed Control

Now is the time where weeds will germinate in your lawn. Weeds should be eradicated using a chemical weed control product making sure the correct chemical is used for the specific turf variety.

Lawn Grub Control

Lawn grubs in some areas will have started to become active, treat with quality lawn grub spray with 2 applications 7-10 days apart.


Summer

Fertilising

Fertilise every 6-8 weeks making sure to water in well, this will minimise burning to the plant

Lawn Grub Control

Lawn grubs do not need to be controlled however there is no prevention, treat with quality lawn grub spray with 2 applications 7-10 days apart

Weed Control

Weeds should be kept in check making sure to purchase the correct chemical for the grass variety you have

Fungus Control

Autumn

Fertilising

Fertilising during this period will help provide needed nutrients to help your lawn during the dormant winter period ahead

Raise Mowing Height

At this time of the year it is vital to raise the height of your lawn mower, this will help frost in winter - the taller growth will help keep the ground warmer

Weed Control

As per summer and spring, keep the weeds in check - using a quality weed control product

Fungus Control

Keep a eye out for any lawn disease


Winter

Fertilising

Fertilising and watering during winter will help to minimise the effect of browning during winter and help with early greening in spring
