The sound, the presence, the look has always been on the wish list for any garden situation. Over the years the advances in waterproofing, the wider range of pots and glazed water bowls as well as the improvements in fibreglass replicas are finally making these wishes a reality.

Today, the only limitations are your imagination. A water bowl is a good way to start as it is a fairly cheap way to get a nice feature in your garden. It is a really good feature for any kind of garden especially a small garden as it does not take up much room.

This is what you will need for your water bowl

pot (30cm to 90cm in diameter with depths from 15cm to 60cm)
a few oxygenating water plants
if you want movement and sound add a pump
you need to locate the bowl close to an electricity source - outdoors we need a waterproof powerpoint - indoors it can be anywhere
with the use of electricity near water remember that it is important that you have, the now legal, circuit breaker in working order
once you choose the site, you might want to group it with some other plants and pots
fill the pot with water, maybe some stones, even a Lily (Kiwi Calla Lily is happy to live in water, as is the larger Arum Lily
with full sun you can have a water lily
we now put the pump in at a height that will let the bell attachment sit either just or well above the surface
raising can be done on an upturned pot so it isn't obvious
turn it on
one more step - add a couple of goldfish - the fish will keep the algae away, the pump keeps the water clean with just a regular filter wash and the sound keeps you relaxed
