- native plants will grow virtually in any soil and also require
very little water
- cover the garden bed with a big layer of
mulch to keep the moisture
in the soil as well as reducing the number of weeds
- in a small garden,
plant dwarf versions if possible, to create
the effect that the garden is bigger than it really is
- only have flowering pot plants
when you have the time to water them regularly
- if you rely on rain water
only, buy plants which you do not
have to water much ( such as natives )
- only have lawn
if you enjoy mowing, if you don't want too much
lawn put pebbles, pavers or blue metal dust¹ in the garden
- natives are wonderful, because they will attract a lot of
native
birds in your garden
- natives will grow really well as they are in their
natural environment
- grow your own vegetables and fruit
like lettuce and tomatoes
in the white styrofoam boxes,
they will grow fast and have a unique
taste, as well as saving you money.
¹ Blue metal dust will become almost as hard as concrete when rolled
