First. rip out the floor
Labour costs include
- Stripping bathroom of existing tiles and fittings
- May include re-figuring the plumbing so items like the toilet and bath can be placed in a different spot
- Rendering walls
- Re-wiring
- Waterproofing
- Drainage
- Tiling and painting
- Installing new plumbing
- Installing new fittings
- Installing ventilation or heating

- One of the greatest cost variants in bathroom renovations is the labour costs. If fixtures are repositioned, plumbing costs can double
- Keeping the existing plumbing and fixtures keeps costs down
Keeping the costs down
- Get chipped or stained baths, basins or tiles, resurfaced in the colour of your choice. Re-finishing an entire bathroom will cost between $1,000 and $2,000
- Buy second - quality fittings or tiles that have minor cosmetic flaws. You could save up to 50 per cent
- Save money and space by forging a full vanity and opting for a wall-hung basin and a simple wall shelf
- Keep toilets, baths and basins in original locations to save labour costs.
- Tile over existing floor or wall tiles to save cost of removal.
