For areas which experience regular cyclones or violent storms, like the northern parts of Australia, this is worth considering to protect against flying shards of glass and debris seriously injuring people.

Experts tell us that the security films are a very good security measure against crime. Even to crack the glass would take several successive blows with a heavy object (e.g. about 15 blows with a heavy sledge hammer). Once the glass is cracked, it is still very difficult to penetrate the window since the film will not tear and to cut the film with a very sharp knife is also very difficult since the film keeps the glass pieces close together.

In other words it would take considerable time and make a fair bit of noise to have a chance to penetrate a window covered with security film. If an intruder manages this then they would also have a similar success rate to penetrate other forms of window security.
